new phone I really wanted to play final fantasy 14 again. I was ready to buy all the new expansions and everything. However Square uses the most asinine security I have ever seen. Apparently 2 factor authentication like every other game in the world uses isn't good enough. Apparently the nuclear launch codes must be hidden in this game somewhere. 0/5 apparently Square wants me to go spend my money on guild wars 2 instead, so be it.

registration password Recognises nothing, SE ID or date of birth (backwards) complete waste of time. It seems I need a one time password to set up the smart phone software. If I could generate one time password I wouldn't need the software token. Obviously I'm missing a few somethings, can't be bothered now to try and sort it out. I'm just waiting for ESO online maintenance I won't bother with FFXI not worth the hassle for an out of date game.

emergency removal Quite possibly the worst handling account management as possible. This game needs a total of an app, 2 separate websites, a launcher, buying a full game, monthly payments and 4 different hidden codes to be allowed to even attempt to log in and download the game past the launcher. And on top of all that, even with supports help, it still doesn't work properly and this game is not worth fully buying a second time.

square enix lost software token App updated and locked me out didn't have my emergency removal code anymore. I was able to get it back from the help of customer service in a week, but if you are looking to get 2 factor authentication just get the physical token.

Security is a high priority and adding a 2FA method is important to me. With that said, I have used this app several times over the years only to have it "forget" or lose its settings which would lock me out of my account quite often. After a long break away from Square-Enix products I decided to reinstall and give this app another try... after all, it has been a few years. Did they make it better? Nope. It's still as much of a piece of junk as it always has been.... get the physical token.

The app itself is great, if you have a single carrier or a single SIM card. The moment you use Project Fi or multiple SIMs, the app becomes useless to the user. I ended up going back to an old hardware token because the app would lose settings every time the carrier switched since they have disabled the ability to block phone access for the app. This used to be a great app for me, but I have to give it a failing review now due to the short-sightedness of the dev team to accommodate users who do not fit in to their required use case.

The app was working fine up until yesterday when it acted like I've never used it before. I had already registered my account, but for some reason it wanted me to register again. I had to use my emergency removal password to get into my account. Now today the same thing happened again but this time my emergency removal password isn't working so I'm locked out. I think someone said he hs to do with Google Project Fi which I'm on so that's a bummer.

The only reason I still use it is for the free teleport and to keep my account secure. Would prefer I could use any 2fa app. It generally works fine, but it looks kind of dated. All of the actions are jammed at the top 15% of the screen (the buttons are way smaller for me than in the pics), the only way to reset the code is to hit the back button and generate a new one (why is there no refresh button?). None of that is major, but the app could use a little attention. But you are getting functional 2fa for your account and the ability in game to have a free travel destination.

i installed this app yesterday to get the free teleport location, and to help secure my account. it apparently wipes itself if your phone switches carriers. i use google fi so it switches carriers depending on signal strength. now i cant log in and support is closed for the holidays. long story short, make sure you write down the emergency removal password. or better yet, don't install this crappy token app.

Worked fine for the better part of 3 weeks then reset itself and I can't access the game or my account. (By "reset itself" I mean it prompted me to accept the TOS/license and to enter my SQ Enix ID, DOB, and registration password; just like when using it for the first time.) So now I wait for the "Support Center" Yay! 13 hrs. after submitting a ticket I get an email acknowledging receipt of the ticket and informing me they will respond within 48 hrs. Yay! Oh.... the app worked on Friday and less than 24 hrs later reset itself. ABSOLUTELY NO UPDATES FOR THIS OR ANY APP WERE INSTALLED. NO UPDATES FOR ANDROID WERE INSTALLED. NO NEW APPS WERE INSTALLED. This app screwed me all on its own. 36 out of the last 50 reviews are 1 star....best of luck if you still choose to install it.

Moderate set-up difficulty. Follow the instructions closely or youll have problems others have described here. You will be bouncing between the app, your e-mail and mog station for registration process. I followed it carefully and it works flawlessly (so far). Other than that the app is... well, very boring. Not much else to say. It provides a one time use key which must be used in conjunction with your password at log in... that's it.

This isn't worth the effort in attempting to recover a lost security token through an 'emergency removal password'. You can't get it without logging in but if logging in weren't an issue, neither would getting the removal code. I wrote it down on a slip of paper approximately 5 years ago, which is now seems to be the equivalent time spent on being able to contact customer service.

Great alternative to the hardware authenticator, but if you are on Google Fi or a plan that changes networks it will unlink and force you to do emergency recovery constantly. Been a problem for years that they don't seem willing to fix. You can install an older version that doesn't require Phone permissions to get around this. This will be 5 starts once this simple bug gets some attention.

Now with this program, it is actually "two factor authentication" not "one time password". allow me to explain. Square enix for final fantasy is a primarily Japanese company, many of its people speak fluent Japanese. The problem is a translation error. When Translating the Japanese phrasing for "one time password" to English, it comes out giving the misinterpretation that the password only is used for a single time. This is not a single use password. This is an authentication system. =)

Absolutely awful! Basically anytime you power off your phone, restart it, or clear your cache - the app breaks and you get locked out of your account until you remove the authenticator. So I would highly advise against using it because I can't believe it has such a major design flaw. That's just mind-numbingly stupid. It's not worth the free teleport destination or the added security,. Just use a better password.

Stopped working. Couldn't log in unless I removed it entirely. Now it won't let me add it back unless I have a 'registration password' on a site which it won't give me or send to my email, and no call has come through like the app requested to do. Now I'm worried that I've tried to re-add it to my phone and account, and it might lock me out if I log out. It was working fine before, why is it toast now?! Bad app!

It MEANS "PASSWORD IS GOOD ONCE AND ONCE ONLY, and you have to use a different one every time you log in. It's for your protection and security. One Time Password= only good ONCE. There's no reason to have *yet another* app for this purpose - and the terminology they use is confusing, but you could chalk that up to the fact that Square Enix is a Japanese company. They should use the same standard setup as other folks, and let you use Google Authenticator for this purpose like every other site does (I currently have Amazon, Google, Lastpass, Dropbox and Zoho in it.) The "One Time Password" is actually a part of Two-Factor Authentication, and the One-Time Password (OTP) is what is usually used to provide Two-Factor Authentication. (Another reviewer misunderstood this.) Activation is needlessly complex and the setup is torturous and confusing - but if you can get through it, your security will be dramatically enhanced. Recommended.

The application regularly resets on dual sim phones / Project Fi. This occurs every time the phone changes carriers. I lose access to my Square Enix Account every time this occurs. The work around to correct this was to disable phone permissions for the application. However, an update made over the summer prevents the application from running when this permission is not enabled. This results in an unusable security token. The application does not work as advertised and I would not recommend using it. If you play FF14 and are on Project Fi, buy a physical token or play a different game.

Plenty of people have given this a 1 star review due to issues from moving carriers or having Google Fi. Where yes, that is an issue, for anyone else this app works fine as an authenticator. My only issue is the menu system, in true Square Enix fashion, looks like it's from 2010. If you have Google Fi or switch carriers often, unfortunately, you're better off with a physical authenticator.

Lost my phone, locked out of account. The email they sent with the serial number is useless, can't use that to recover account. Have to contact support directly, and if you don't remember details from years ago you're SOL. The hoops they make you jump through is unbelievable. Imagine doing that a few more times for the game setup before you can actually play. I was a 1.0 beta tester and player, ARR beta tester, then played for a few more years, now I'm officially done with this game.

Of all the two-factor auth apps I've used, this is by far the worst. Apparently there's a bug that causes this app to reset when using Google Fi as a carrier, which I'm now experiencing. There's no reason for this app to require phone permissions either; yet these permissions are mandatory. Apparently the emergency removal password I have is wrong somehow and now I'm completely locked out of my Square Enix account; for which I'm actively paying a subscription. I'm so fuming right now.

Installed about a week ago on Galaxy 8+. No problems. Some of the reviews talk about SE forcing you to use this. This is optional. I've seen better token apps, but this one is adequate. Phones do weird things and updates from the carrier and other apps can effect apps unintentionally. If you understand security tokens, this is a fine app.

First time using it. Similar to googles, setup is easy. I will admit the long registration pass is excessive and prone to mistakes. However, its no real issue. Just be on the mog station to start the process get the email with it, and you'll be set up. Only used it once so far but i didnt have any issues.

As a Google Fi user my phone swaps between different carriers, multiple times per day. The fact that the app needs "Phone" permissions causes my app to reset each time it swaps carriers, which requires me to use the emergency removal of my authenticator from my account. You can only remove the authenticator once daily. So in order to play the game I have to go through a security settings reset and then not move my phone if I need to log back in for any reason, EVERY 24 HOURS! This is ridiculous.

Instead of letting us use any 3rd party 2FA app like everyone else, they've decided to make one with a huge issue: its way too easy to lose your data. If you clear your phone's cache, you'll reset this app completely, so be careful. Its also an annoying implementation of 2FA. I shouldnt have to pull this out every time I want to log into the game or view my account details on the same device. At the least we should be able to defer checks on frequently used devices.

I have always been a fan of 2-step verification, it's a genius way of adding another layer of security to any account while barely being much of a hassle, so if any website or app offers it, I'll always go for it; That being said, this is probably the worst 2-step I've ever seen, I've never had any problems with 2-step until today with this terrible app, and I can't stress enough how much I recommend avoiding this app at all costs.

An update resulted in this app being reset, which locked me out of my account. You can technically remove the OTP requirement if you have the emergency removal password written down, but it shouldn't be necessary in the first place. I will also mirror the complaints that others had regarding usability. Please just allow Google or Duo authenticator to be used in the future. This app is so bad that I'm going to risk having no additional authentication until there's an actual good option.

Using dual sim galaxy s10+ with two sim cards on different networks. I was locked out of my account for two days. The app suddenly dropped my registration without warning. Then, I asked about the time lost. They said, they "could not give me free time". How is it free, if it's time I paid for? Sure, I wasn't forced to use the app. Also, I wasn't aware of a removal code, until I had this issue. To even suggest it as "free" time is nonsense. I paid twice here, once with my earnings, and again with my trust. The code should be emailed, with the info to register.

I wanted to take some time to review this app. Hopefully square enix is looking at this. The hoops SQEX makes their user jump through when attempting to restore the token are annoying. If you lost your removal password you're stuck waiting after customer support that only works a dream schedule. I am not happy with the experience related to this application. I'm another Google Fi user who is having to drop the app & buy a physical security token. I've been on Fi for the last 3 years & used the app without issue, but as of a few weeks ago it's begun unregistering itself (apparently every time I change carriers, which is whenever I use data), so I have to use my emergency password & reset it every time I want to login. I have an old security token but they don't let you reuse those either, so now I get to spend $11 to login securely. Thanks SE!

I have had to use my recovery key multiple times. The app would just forget everything. That's a case of almost loosing access to my account permanently! Seriously, it's not hard to do 2FA right. Merely follow the TOTP standard, with an emergency backup method. This game isn't security critical, so SMS should be enough.

Please cease the support of this application and migrate to an open OTP solution to take advantage of modern auth solutions. It stays at the Loading screen for a minute or two before crashing. I had to remove my 2FA token to get back into my account. Trying to set 2FA back up doesn't solve the issue. This app feels like an attempt to push their overpriced physical fobs due to how bad it became.

After the most recent update on Project Fi, this app now requires phone permissions which somehow causes the app to wipe all account data every time the app is launched. It is completely useless and will leave you unable to access your account at sporadic times.

Not sure why you need an otp AND your regular password. Most authentication apps are used so that you don't need to type in your password. I wish this was instead more like the blizzard authentication app where it gives you a pop-up to approve the login. It's very tedious to type in your password and then an otp. This could have been done so much better.
